Same time frame for me

Not sure if it'll work for adults, but I copied the newspaper again and again on to loose leaf paper in 5th grade. I'm left handed so practice was my only recourse.
Now I'm the office 'will you fill this out for me with your nice handwriting' guy.

Like everything else, practice.
I write in all caps and I have good handwriting for a dude. My problem is that I'd much rather write in cursive because it's so much easier on an iPad and faster.
If I had shite handwriting and was going to practice to get better penmanship, I'd focus on learning to write nicely in cursive. It's faster and will carry over more easily to digital stuff, which will probably become more common going forward. People saying it's obsolete are shortsighted. Knowing how to do basic old world stuff in the future is going to make you more interesting than people who type 100wpm on an iphone.
As far as practice, you're more likely to opt for handwritten stuff if you have nice pens and paper. Doesn't have to be really expensive, get a 20 dollar Lamy pen and throw a good Uniball gel refill in there.
