Electric, 12 years old, changed the elements once.

Water gets extremely hot, hours later there's no hot water at all. Have to remove side panel and push reset button. Repeat.

Thermostat?

You're using all the hot water. I'd suggest not using as much.

Not sure what the repair or cost may be, but that water heater is at the end of its usefulness. Something to think about when deciding to throw more money at this WH.

Tape down the reset button.

12 years old, might be time to replace with a new more efficient unit. The reset button is tripping due to excess temp. Probably the thermostat.

About $1K will solve your problem.

That's what it cost me to replace a nat gas unit a few months ago.

You didn't say "hot water heater". Have an upvote to warm your heart during your cold showers.

As stated, you need to hit one or both reset buttons. There are probably two, depending on the size.

Also as stated, that water heater is at the end of its expected time. Do not spend any money to fix it. If you fix it, it will be a waste soon. It will be rusted through on the bottom very soon.

Change both thermostats.

One on top and one on bottom.

12 years is a good life for a water heater. May be time to put it down.
