If they pulled up 20 foot away and the kid pointed the gun at them he would still be dead.

If they did this, they would have realized it was a child.

The dispatcher also earned a measure of culpability.

Also, not sure of Cleveland procedure but all other cars were on "priority calls". This was not considered a priority call. Shouldn't that have played in the cop's decision to go in, literally, guns blazing.

As I've said elsewhere, I've defended Darren Wilson. This is indefensible.

Best case scenario results in our communities -- and the nation as a whole -- taking a hard look at how police officers have been trained over the past 20 years or so (post 1992) and the "Us V. Them" culture that seems to permeate the police departments across the country. Thanks LA.

True on both accounts. I can't argue with that.

The training we receive now is MUCH better than 20 years ago. It's not a "Us vs Them" mentality, but a Be Vigilant attitude.

Wtf did I just watch??? This is unreal. Why the hell did they just drive up on the grass directly in front of what was reported as an armed suspect? Passenger right in the line of fire. How does this even happen? Who trained these people? I mean what...I can't deal.

What's the percentage of cops who get shot by 6th graders?

If you say so, I've heard differently from older, retired police officers who resented the Los Angeles attitude that crept into officer training courses. All the new cops wanted to be like the cool kids in LA with their black uniforms (dark blue), tac vests, shaved heads, tattoos and wraparound glasses. RAMPAGE was all the rage. They forget that most of those guys are doing fed time these days for corruption, dereliction of duty, strong arm robbery, drug trafficking, etc.

I don't think that's a category.

Using my post history as evidence is clearly a form of personal attack.

Our cops should be trained to learn how to handle situations like this without using lethal force. Thats what pisses me off. Idgaf about the race, it scares me that we have cops with this shoot first ask questions later mentality. And yea, you can say a cop has to act in self defense and protect his life as well, and thats cool, I totally agree. But they need to learn how they can avoid being in that situation in the first place. And the problem is they have the generic cop mentality that everyone here hates. Thats what gets them into situations where they feel they have to use lethal force.

They are cops, its their job to go to those situations and control them. i am nota cop, but i dont want a single one putting their life in danger.

If you are dumb enough to be pointing a gun at people, dont be surprised when someone points one back at you and uses it. This is 110% the idiots fault for waving a gun around "rather it be fake or not" im not going to ask is it real when they pull it on me. Shoot first and sort out the details later... again the kid "idiot" put himself in that situation. Good job cops

I often wonder how cops ever get shot in the line of duty if all someone has to do to justify getting killed by a cop is reach towards anything.

Uh... That's kind of at the very heart of their job. Putting their lives and their health at risk for the good and protection of the populace.

OK, this, particularly the part in bold, has to be a troll. If so, 8/10.

But if it isn't a troll, people like you are as much part of the problem as the overzealous "shoot first, ask questions later" cops.
