Video editing software advice needed

Recommendations on a free or relatively inexpensive video converting/editing software program compatible with Windows 10. Need to convert VOB to mp4 and easy to use editing interface such as movie maker. Don't need many bells/whistles.

You may also want to try the Fark board. There is some pretty talented individuals over there.

Mpegstream clip is good for this. But it does require QuickTime and other software.
Also if this is not a long term or ongoing project, you could just download a trial of some professional editing software like Adobe Premier or Avid. Avid even has something called Media Composer First which a stripped down version of their professional editing software that you can use freely.

Screen-Cast-O-matic has some nice tools for editing after uploading the clip and easy to use.
