I have a older jeep and I never received the title upon paying off.
The dealership is out of business and all other paperwork was destroyed, payoff paperwork and other info.

Need a title to sell it.

So in TX to get a title you can fill out a form (VTR-34), but one part is you have to provide the payoff documentation. I do not have that.

I know the lien company was in CA but that's about it.

I have pulled the report by VIN# and it is very vague. Just lists recalls and where the vehicle has been and registered in its life. generic like registered in TX and AR. no details

Any other way I can get a title?

How long ago was this payoff? You should be able to find the creditor's name on your credit report.
The dealership doesn't hold onto the title, the loan company has those.

my friend.... i have experienced this.

we bought a Trailblazer from a friend financed through Citibank Texas. five years later Citibank Texas closed their doors we thought we had the title but apparently not. when it came time to sell, we realized the error of our ways. beat down the door at DMV and local office and we'd get helpful people or unhelpful people that gave conflicting information.

We gave all info and then applied for a lost title. It took a while because they had to go through that process.

In the middle of that, I had been beating on the door of Citi Corporate repeatedly giving them our information and the payoff, loan info, etc. Since They closed Texas and sold off the loans, even though ours was paid off, they were at a bit of a quagmire.

What I did was pay for all the lien info and then started messaging people on linkedin repeatedly that worked for the lien holder until it magically appeared in the mail one day.

I will say that at the public records office when we were trying to get things figured out, one lady said she would take everything, and one lady said that wouldn't work. you may shop DMVs, Clerks that will hear you out and give you some options.

If you purchased it after 2019 it might have an E-Title since TX started those at the end of 2019. you may only need the VTR-34 to get your title. If you are able, go to the county assessor in a smaller county. I used to hit the one in Hardin County/Kountze for stuff, and it was much quicker - and much better than hitting one of the ones in Beaumont.
