Thanks! That’s actually an external fuel tank.
Did they need to jettison it before landing like the Hornet before a carrier landing?

As far as I know they didn’t.

As I've said before, really enjoy your aircraft models, mainly b/c I know next to nothing about tanks. Didn't know this plane ever existed - the detail is superb. Thanks for showing us your terrific craftsmanship.
Thanks. Glad you like it. I enjoy doing the lesser known aircraft and vehicles. And while the Hs 123 isn’t well known, it’s successor is one of the iconic aircraft of WWII…

Very nice! Thanks for posting.

1/48 scale
Damn you must go through some paint.
Didn’t know it was the predecessor to the Stuka.
Thanks.

Yep. It was actually a really good plane on its time. It saw extensive service in the Spanish Civil War. The Chinese also used some against the Japanese during WWII, though I believe all of them were lost.

Was wondering if there are competitions for modelers like there are for taxidermists, etc.? I enjoy seeing your work in these threads. Keep posting them, please!

Thanks, I’m glad you like my work. As for competitions, In my area there is a yearly model show and competition. It’s held by the B’ham model club but it’s held in Anniston. I entered the 1/35 scale Carro Armato M13/40 below last year and took Bronze…

How is that show now? I haven't been since it moved to Anniston.

It’s still pretty good. I mostly go to pick up kits. I usually leave with at least seven or eight.

That's why we always went. There were some sellers there with plenty of vehicle kits, too. There used to be one at the Jaycee building in Huntsville that was almost exclusively military kits. I'd always find some oddball and rare kits there.

That’s what I l or about the model show. You can find kits you’ll be lucky to find anywhere else. And usually you can get some really great deals.
The Bham Club meets one Saturday a month at the Model Box on Hoover. I’ve even gone in the store to buy a kit while they were there holding a meeting. Never really had the desire to join though.

Dang, if that only won a bronze, I'd love to see the gold and silver winners! What are the judging criteria and the categories for entries? TIA!

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what they’re looking for. They have different categories. Some of the ones they choose baffle me.

Crazy that the Luftwaffe went from that WWI relic to the Stuka and the Bf 109 in just a couple of years, and those planes’ time in the sun was short-lived.

The speed of aircraft development from 1930 to 1940 was nothing short of astonishing. When the Hs 123 was introduced in 1935, biplanes were still common as frontline aircraft in air forces around the world. Less than a decade later, the Luftwaffe was operating jet aircraft.

Great build as usual. Always look forward to your build posts.

Why are people downvoting this?
Some are just being juvenile…but it is also very easy to fat finger the wrong vote when you are voting on a phone.
