The major difference is class action lawsuits and the FDA. I have worked for multiple major pharma comps. My first boss in the industry told me anecdote. "One million people eat a peanut butter sandwich, 5 die. One million people take an antibiotic and 5 die but it saves 500k lives. Jiff doesn't owe a penny but the class action suit against pharma is worth 500 mill." Many drugs are approved outside the U.S. that can never make it past the FDA. Every civilized nation in the world allows higher doses or medications that the U.S refuses to approve. Experimental meds able to save terminal patients don't need specific approval for use like they do in the U.S. it's up to the patient.
A overweight, high blood pressure, diabetic, 70 yr old can have an adverse reaction to a med and the family can get millions. It doesn't matter that he would have been dead 10 yrs prior without other meds. The litigious environment has f'd health care in the U.S.

Our healthcare and education blows for how wealthy of a country we are. No study needed
US citizens are paying astronomical prices for drug care so that other countries with socialized care can get it cheap.
Force other countries to pay their share and take the burden of us.

I don’t see how this is possible. Aren’t we like literally living longer now?
I know we are fatter, but aren’t we healthier than we were 28 years ago?
It's a ranking. Other countries could have gained more than we did.

Certain the report was done by an unbiased non-liberal foundation who doesn't want more money in the liberal dominated education business. I'm CERTAIN.

Part of the criteria used was existence of universal health care.

According to whom, based on what methodology, has anyone else corroborated these findings or the methodology used to reach them? You can’t believe these partisan “studies”. It’s like preason college football rankings.

Studies like this don’t show the fact that the best education and healthcare in the world are available here if you are smart enough or can pay for them.

I was going to ask this. How many countries have this situation?

partly the result of reduced and poorly allocated funds for elementary and high schools
fricking nonsense
We outspend every other country in the world on elementary and high school education.

Then the "study" is worthless. Our ranking should be determined by the outcomes, not the inputs.

I've lived in 3 countries with nationalized healthcare and it was too good to be true. But some governments are better than others and I don't trust ours to be worth one shite at anything let alone healthcare.

After ranking countries based on their levels of education and health, the study found that the US ranked 27th in the world on these metrics as of 2016, behind a host of top-ranking Nordic countries, including Finland, Iceland, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
Interesting that the leading countries are all homogeneous
societies..

Iceland isn't that good when it comes to education:
quote:
An OECD assessment found 64% of Icelanders aged 25–64 have earned the equivalent of a high-school degree, which is lower than the OECD average of 73%. Among 25- to 34-year-olds, only 69% have earned the equivalent of a high-school degree, significantly lower than the OECD average of 80%.
That's from their Wiki page.
And in terms of health, their life expectancy is 81 which is good, but they're the STD capital of Europe.

And this is what I mean by the “study” being rigged from the beginning. Most o the ranking is totally subjective. Outcomes are like 1/5 of the equation and even the outcome measurements are totally biased to help the other countries.
If you haven’t looked into it you should, it’s eye opening. But again, if people repeat it enough everyone starts to believe it.
