Anybody else get a million calls from different Louisiana numbers for your “student loan forgiveness”?

This shite is getting on my nerves, my number is already on a do not call list. What else do I do?

Doesn't work anymore. Many of these new scams call you from real, local numbers. Ever try calling them back? You and some random person are both asking each other "who the frick is this?"

These are scammers spoofing local numbers (higher likelihood you will answer) - they're phishing for information and, in all likelihood a payment method than can charge - they might not be 100% fraudulent (in that, they may offer some small measure of something - but I doubt it), but they're 100% illegitimate - they're breaking the law (because it doesn't apply to them in Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Jamaica, etc.), so it is 100% a scam.

Don't answer numbers you don't recognize. If it's a legitimate call, they'll leave a message.

(ETA: Heck, they might have gotten your number from the Do Not Call list.)

Thats the thing, the numbers I’m receiving calls from continue to change. I live in VA now, so anytime I get a 337 call I know it’s 99% bullshite, but it’s still fricking annoying

If you took out the loan, the calls aren't unsolicited. You likely gave them permission to call and market to you incessantly.

They're spoofing blocks of numbers for a day's call - a robodialer makes the call - so, it will be the same call center, perhaps, using those different blocks of numbers on different days.

This is because people just started having unknown numbers blocked. Bad numbers were getting blacklisted. So, now they spoof legitimate numbers.

It's the price of having a phone in the 21st Century. Don't answer. If they get you, have some fun with it - the new Credit Card Services threatens to cancel your card if you don't talk to them about lowering your interest rates. So, IF they get me (maybe once or twice a month), I play the complete idiot - I ask them which card they're calling about. I tell them my wife handles the finances and she might have some of those store credit cards. I try to get them to give me details which they can't possibly have. All they have is my number, and the robodialer already got that when I answered, so as long a you don't tell them anything else, you can enjoy it until they give up and hang up.

I've at least tied up that guy for 2 or 3 minutes. Yeah, I burned 2 or 3 minutes of my time, but a couple of times a month isn't too bad.

Like when I took all those credit card offers and I would put the empty envelopes - all the glossy promotional information without the identifying information about me and started sending them back in the prepaid envelopes. Sending them back empty does no good - I don't even think the Post Office charges them for that, but at least with something in there, someone had to open and look at it.

Petty and petulant? Sure, but it was a way to fight back.
