Tokyo is stunning at night (or at dusk or sunrise)-

It's too big to get in one shot, and then there's the Imperial Palace as a dark void in the middle of all that congestion.

Earlier someone alluded to Seattle being a poor man's Vancouver.

Ditto to that, I went to Seattle first and thought of them as kind of twin cities.

Vancouver >>>>> Seattle

Sure it is. Mauna Kea is taller but more than half is underwater.

Ok...

Realize, there is no definitive answer on "tallest" mountain.

No, you are using vague terminology that you read on a tourism phamplet

Key West claims to have the largest reef in the world, when you go snorkeling...so does Belize

You're proving your ignorance.

Goeoligically, Everest isn't that tall. It starts on a plane at 20k feet.

You're proving you're a Denali homer because it is in your backyard.

Manhattan's closest rival imo, with Tokyo and Sao Paulo worth a mention.

amazes me how willingly ignorant people post here. [link=(www.google.com/amp/s/amp.livescience.com/40595-denali-mount-mc)]LINK[/link]

quote:

There is a distinction between measuring "highest" and "tallest." The highest mountain is determined by measuring a mountain's highest point above sea level. The tallest mountain is measured from base to summit. Using that measurement, Denali is taller thanMount Everest. Denali rises about 18,000 feet (5,500 meters) from its base, which is a greater vertical rise than Everest's 12,000-foot rise (3,700 meters) from its base at 17,000 feet (5,200 meters).

In his book, "The Finest Peaks: Prominence and Other Mountain Measures" (Trafford, 2005), Adam Helman wrote, "The base to peak rise of Mount McKinley is the largest of any mountain that lies entirely above sea level." Based on its topographic prominence, or the distance between its summit and lowest contour line, Denali is the third most prominent peak after Mount Everest and Aconcagua in South America.

Yes, I know the Denali line. You speak it well.

Kilimanjaro is off regarded as tallest because it rises on its own.

Like I said, when parsing "tallest" and "highest" it is really an argument about who can be the most smug.

It's literally the height difference in the base and the peak...

Yeah, it is a subjective argument when the mountains are amongst a range.

I'll defer to a topographer. I suppose I'd need to see what they consider the base for a respective mountain.

Its geologic fact.

There's a 200 page thread about an ignorant lady who says silly stuff in ignorance and when called in it she doubles down.

You've just qualified to be in her league.

Hint: do research before pretending to know crap on message boards
