Wouldn't an executor have power of attorney for the estate, at least temporarily? I would imagine an executor could claim funds for an estate.

An executor is just someone who is carrying out the wishes of the decedent in the succession. They are not granted POA but are more just someone who is handling the succession and closing out the estate. TYpically a family member like an heir.

No - but you will need the JOP and a death certificate. I went through this last year and the process for my sister and me was amazingly simple compared to what I thought it would be.

Power of Attorneys (Mandates in Louisiana) are only valid when the principal is alive. Once they die, the mandate is no longer valid.

Is the succession still open?
