Kind of hard to "support" the protesters if you keep using the language of the people they're protesting.

And once again, "Kiev" is Russian, "Kyiv" is Ukrainian. "The Ukraine" is Russian, "Ukraine" is Ukrainian.

Aren't they technically neither, because it's all English?

i somewhat agree with this, but Kiev and The Ukraine is what we have been taught in America, so it's kinda hard not to go with what you're accustomed to

It's the translation into Latinate characters, at least with Kyiv. "The Ukraine" is due to the Russian idea that Ukraine is part of Russia.

@ClaraSchmelck #Ukraine: 44 journalists injured these days, including some beaten blood by police while covering the demonstrations.

I read somewhere that the police were actually targeting members of the press, they had been wearing vests that had PRESS across them, so now they aren't wearing anything to let the cops know who they are.

Their defenses are a lot more impressive now. I wouldn't want to break through all that if I was a pig. I would be worried about getting trapped between walls if I were a protester though, especially with how huge the walls are getting.

Three latest updates from RT
quote:

18:23 GMT: The White House has reiterated its threat to impose sanctions on Ukraine.

During a media briefing White House spokesman Jay Carney chided the Ukrainian authorities for failing to respond to "legitimate" grievances of the opposition, and for imposing draconian anti-protest legislation last week.

The US embassy in Kiev has already stripped several officials implicated in the violence in Kiev of US visas.
quote:

18:08 GMT: The ceasefire called for the duration of the negotiations between officials and opposition leaders expired at 1800 GMT, though the politicians are still talking behind closed doors. So far there has been no violence; Klitschko implored his supporters to refrain from aggressive moves before the end of the talks.

18:05 GMT: President Viktor Yanukovich is meeting with three main opposition leaders, including Viktor Klitschko, in a government building in Kiev. The highly-anticipated negotiations were postponed throughout the day.
