quote:They will pre-check you through with just your CAC, but if you're a frequentish flyer you may as well just create an account with your favorite airline and punch in your DOD ID as your KTN.
Or do you just go down the Pre-Check line and show your boarding pass with a military ID?

I do it all the time. If you forget when booking, you can get them to add it at the counter.

FIFY. TSA PreCheck isn't a guaranteed thing, it's still subject to random screenings and TSA PreCheck lines are sometimes closed. If you are in uniform they might wave you through, they may make you go through the regular screening process, it entirely depends on the people working security. I travel almost monthly on military business and I don't bet on PreCheck being on every boarding pass or even getting expedited screening even if it is.

One of my favorite examples of government waste. They created the system to make it easier to to get reimbursed for travel, moves, etc. It was supposed to get rid of a ton of wasted jobs and offices - basically modernize the whole system and take everything online.
Well they made DTS the most difficult and user-unfriendly system out there. In fact, it is so complicated and awful that they had to hire more workers to walk people through the system while filling it out.
If you want to get reimbursed for a move, instead of doing it all online like it was designed, you have to make an appt, show up in person to a DTS office, and have someone essentially stand over you while you figure out how to do it on the computer.
I'm a NDEA for my brigade and it really isn't that bad. Problem is it relies on attention to detail and most SM's these days suck at it. Combined with mandating the use of a GTC and expecting every SM to be able to use CAC-access sites on their civilian computer then you have issues. I solve most of those issues by giving the traveler a letter of instruction telling them what they have to put in DTS. Travel dates and times, LOA, per diem, mileage and non-mileage expenses they are authorized, etc. Even still they can't remember to keep their receipts and validated orders...

Well there's an issue, giving a Jarhead a problem they can't solve with a Kabar...

Unless you're in uniform, or have orders in hand, that's it.
If you are traveling routinely, nope. Even with routine TDY trips they're not going to let you through that line unless you have a paper copy of your orders in hand. It's a far cry from five years ago. They've changed up a lot of things in the last year, specifically the DoDID number (which I think is strange) on the DTS orders. You could have a set of DTS without the ID number, in uniform, and still not let through that line. It's honestly bizarre and dependent on the unit/State/reserve unit. I've been through to PEC on orders @ Camp Robinson, Arkansas twice without that number and been kicked out of the line. A little embarrassing.

If the airport has pre-check lines, not all do. Make sure you use your DoD ID number as your KTN for each airline. IF you do this when you go to print your boarding pass it will already have the pre-check on it. Just having it in DTS is not enough some of the time.
Unfortunately this will require you to make a profile with each individual airline, prior to booking through DTS. Obviously you wont get it if the airport you initially travel from does not support Pre-Check.

A lot of good information in the past several posts. Stuff I didn't know as it's changed a lot. Thanks fellas for chiming in, even if I'm not the OP.

You don't need to make a profile with any airline. All you do is check in and tell them you need you dod number added for precheck. They will add it right at the counter. I don't have any profiles. I have done this with United, delta, southwest, and AA all within the last 6 months. You can do this wether on orders or not, in civilian clothes or uniform.
