Is that a tornado? Sort of strange looking and doesn't meet typical tornado signature

the tornado warning has been extended basically to the coast and out into the ocean

Yeah, it happens from time to time, though. I remember on April 27, 2011 the NWS in Birmingham had to do it. What happens is another NWS Office in the region will take over and issue warnings and handle communications until they can come out of their shelter. In 2011, Peachtree City and Mobile did it for Birmingham.
