"Never understood the Yankee way of naming battles. Antietam is a creek that runs over 40 miles. The battlefield didn't stretch over 40 miles. It was around the town of Sharpsburg, which is the proper name for the battle.
Same with both battles of "Bull Run", properly called 1st and 2nd Manassas."

It's kind of a worldwide phenomenon and not just limited to "yankees." There are many battles throughout history named after large bodies of water. World War I had a metric shite ton of them.

Yep in WW I nearly all the major battles in France were named after rivers. A few in the east as well.

Nowhere near the emotional terror and PTSD of 1/6/21
Imagine those soldiers having to be escorted out of a building while people were let in for an unplanned tour that got a little rowdy. They might have been able to handle battlefield amputations with no meds, but that's nothing compared to not being in any danger at all, but feeling like you were.

Gettysburg as we know it likely never happens had Jackson lived.
