Well I didn't understand the process until I went to med school and still can't tell you how all of the various fellowships are selected (some through another match, some not), so I can't really blame them.

Yeah, cause God knows that a 9-5 job 4 days/ week after 4 years of post-grad education for the same money is an inferior gig.
