Sorry about your dad.

Also sorry that he raised an idiot.

Send food.

Cookies, brownies, cupcakes.

We always bring them when we arrive for a surgery/procedure.

[Edit to add that I married unto a nursing family]

Tipping question

I thought this thread was going to be about Guam tipping over.

On your topic: Giving the nurse cash would be creepy. Lots of better options mentioned earlier.

It. Is. Their. Job.

No. You send a nice note to her boss/supervisor and call her out for being awesome.

Spend the day with a stranger taking care of your dad suffering through brain cancer and you might be a little irrationally thankful.

I’d never think to hand them a crisp $100 but I think many want to go above and beyond in their thanks there

Are we just going to ignore this part?

Seeing a loved one suffer from cancer is a very hard thing to do. It’s wondeedul that he’s receiving great nursing care and that you want to show your appreciation.

Keep in mind that many times nurses don’t have time to sit and eat. Sending donuts or bagels and coffee for day shift. I woukd also order pizza or bring in cookies for evening shift. That is what I did when my Dad was at MD Anderson.

A note of appreciation sent to the nurse manager letting him/her know about the great care and mentioning nurses by name goes a long way....as does sending a letter to the hospital administrator.

This.

Bringing food for the nurses is fine as well.

It's already been mentioned...but most hospitals will prohibit staff from accepting gifts over a certain amount(I think like $25). Some will prohibit accepting gift cards of any amount. At least that is the case where I work at.
