Thoughts on Dobermann Pinschers?

I have 2 children... 2 and 7. Have a baby due in August. We just got an 8 week pup yesterday. Obviously sleeps more than anything now but is playful (mostly at night) imagine that right? Should I be worried as the dog gets older... 8-12months around my kids or infant... not that i would ever leave them alone with him... just curious. I’ve read/heard more PROS than CONS TBH. Thanks.

Amazing dogs and great with kids. We had one growing up. If I ever get another dog it will be a Doberman

I used to have one when I was 8 years old and he was a great dog.

I have one right now. I have three kids 5 and under. Great dog and great with kids. They are more gentle than you think. They are just big dogs so the worst they do is knock a kid over on accident from time to time. They are also very protective.

Have you had a dobermann before?
Get it into training ASAP.
You have to be very, very disciplined and firm with them and they can be great dogs.
But a lot of lazy people make them pretty bad.

How does your dog react when your kids are yelling/playing? Are they calm or do they go running after every yell?

Great dogs. Great with kids. Need a firm hand in training them young. Smart. Playful. Good watchdogs. Loyal.

It might bite your kids, but at least it’ll protect them from pit bulls

Great dog with kids. I have a 4, 6 & 8yo. We’ve had our pup for two years and never even close to problem with her and the kids.
Sometimes she will knock a kid over on accident or step on their foot though.
It’s very important that you take the time to train her and work with her on taking commands. They are very intelligent dogs. Plus, the intimidation factor is great. No one will come near your family with her around.

i wouldnt worry but it usually takes more work introducing a child to a dog thats already established in the pack. as already said, they are pretty protective dogs.
