Do you just leave it in your carry on or do you need take it out when going through security? I'm not sure of the rules regarding bringing liquids on a plane (besides the size restrictions)

Use the travel size shampoo bottles with saran wrap between the top and bottle to prevent leakage. You are allowed four bottles so you get 12oz of liquor. And you can take it out of your carryon at security.

If it's 100ml or less put it in your quart size ziplock bag.

Or just buy the sealed single serve liquor bottles like they give you on planes.

No it is not allowed, you could sneak it on in you ziplock as suggested but don't get caught. A better question is why bother? You do realize they serve booze on the plane delivered to you in a glass with your choice of mixer.

Or maybe I'm going out with friends in Houston tomorrow night and my two and a half hour flight doesn't land until after 10

Go ahead and try it, the worst thing that could happen is you don't get to Houston. If you can afford to fly just buy your drinks from the stewardess you cheap frick.

True fact:

If you fly Alaska you get free beer and wine on the flight. (Yes, in coach too)
