Not so fun fact.

The US submarine force had the highest casualty rates of all units in WWII

Some of the skippers earned a Medal of Honor (posthumously)

I was a modern navy submariner and think the WWII sub guys were badass

My BIL spent 25 years in the navy and never set foot on a ship. He went to work for a defense contractor as a field engineer and they sent him to sea on an aircraft carrier.

I've been in that sub also, and it is unbelievably cramped. I could never have served on one. I do know a couple guys from back home who served on subs, and they have my respect.

i have also many years ago.

I have also toured the German U-boat on display at the Chciago Museum of Science and Industry... and seen the enigma machine...
