I’m a lawyer in Houston. Real Estate law generally speaking. Just curious about the market up there, base comp at the big firms, where people live, etc.

Going to check it out in the near future again after having only been there about five years ago. I understand that it is blowing up so it’s probably even different from then.

Have 3 kids all 3 years old and younger so schooling is about to be a priority. Wife is also a lawyer in Partnership Tax and General Corporate law. Any thoughts on the issue are appreciated.

Nashville is overrated. I have been here for a year- it’s not bad but it’s not as great as people seem to think. Move to East TN. That’s where I might head next

ETA: If you and the wife are both lawyers, you could certainly afford to live in Brentwood or Green Hills. The living out there is good- and there’s plenty of good private schools for the kids. Nashville property tax is going up like 46% though FYI

I still think it’s way cheaper than Texas. I pay double what I would pay in Nashville for a house that costs less than half what I would buy in Brentwood. But appreciate the heads up. I have flirted with the idea of moving to Greenville, SC, but family is in Nashville and more family may be on its way. Plus it’s only a 5 hour drive from my parents as opposed to a required flight. Greenville would put me way away from family.

Knoxville is also appealing but when I looked at Tennessee for law school I was not overly impressed with the downtown area. Looked like it was dying. Beautiful area though. And it’s been over a decade since I went.

36%.

And anyone moving to Nashville would live in Williamson county.

It's really nice here. Why do you want to sound so negative?

East TN? Really?

Lovethatmoney.. Come on up. It's very nice here.

If you have family in Nashville it makes sense. Did not intend to deter you or turn you off to the idea- it’s a nice place. Still a lot of traffic but nothing like Houston. Also a lot to do since it’s pretty central.

It works for me, though. Family is in New Orleans and Southwest flies direct. Left Nola at 0900 today and was back at home by 11am. Best of luck in your search

I shouldn’t really throw stones. I live in Sumner County

I’m not hardcore MAGA or anything, but Nashville is much more liberal than I anticipated. I told him it was nice haha.. just not some utopia like many people seem to think.

Williamson county in a landslide. It's really nice here.

Traffic? I haven't gone into the office since early March. It's not a problem.

my sister in law manages rose pepper. I spend most of time on Hillsboro road and it's closer to go to spring hill or Fairview to eat out.

Can't imagine living anywhere else as nice as this. There's no downside.

Sorry, we're full. Try Memphis or Knoxville. Those places are super amazing.

Have been looking at Franklin and Brentwood. Seems like it is the place to be, especially for schools. What’s traffic like sans Covid?

Wait a second. You're a lawyer. You spent 4 more years to lean how to investigate complicated stuff yet you reach out to this board for for information on your job?

You take information from many sources. It’s not like my decision will be based solely on some smart arse remarks from the OT.

ETA: And I didn’t say I was a good lawyer.

And it’s 3 years. Not 4.

The public schools are also actually good.
