I rode a bicycle to work and I clearly remember seeing the Army dudes there marching around in formation at like 6am.

6am? Sounds like pt. Yeah, you'll do pt in formation a lot but that's not what I would think of as practicing drill.

Besides, marching is just walking, really. It's not difficult. It always reminded me of that scene in Stripes.

"Hey, we're walking"

Air Force all the way. Same benefits, same pay, same recognition from civvies (if you're into that).
There's NO way I'd join the Army or Marines during peacetime.

Good luck with that. 80% he'll wash out and end up spending the rest of his enlistment scraping paint off a ship.

Of course it’s not fun or awesome watching your friends die. Nobody here said it was.

They said it was the best things they ever did. I’m sure many of those commenting in this thread experienced some things in their service. A few of my close friends never had an opportunity to see their family again. Thankfully I did not watch it happen, but it happened while our unit was there. (Not trying to douche it up or pump my chest with stories).

The fact that some people didn’t come back doesn’t detract from my satisfaction with my service.

Anyway, nobody said that part was glorious but it’s still the best thing I’ve ever done. Easily the best decision I’ve ever aside from creating an alpha baby boy with my wife.

How'd you get treated when you left SF and joined the fleet? I'm guessing you were already an NCO.

I sometimes think about going back in as an Option 40 68W. Going through boot camp all over again as a 32 year old would suck though, plus the regiment would eventually force me to go to SOMC.
