I was a relief missionary in Tegucigalpa during the summer of 2000. They were still recovering from Hurricane Mitch and there was still enough do to (for a 17yo). Not sure how things are now, though. Do you speak Spanish? Might be a decent idea to get on social media and try to link up with some english-speaking expats--especially from the US.

Try not to get killed. My sister just got back, they had an armed guard with them at all times and she said some areas were still sketchy as frick.

I've spent a lot of time in both countries. Hondurans hate Americans more than any other Central American country. Guatemala has a lot of culture and G city is insane. You can get in all the trouble you want there. That being said, go to Costa Rica.

this is a bunch of bs.

OP...on your way from guate stop in Copan and see the Maya ruins.

Once you are in Ceiba, take the ferry to roatan.

On your way you could stop at the pulhapanzak waterfalls.

The owner is a miss state grad and good friend
pulhapanzak
Near Ceiba you can check out pico bonito national park

Have fun and stay safe amigo.

This is a fact. I'm not talking about locals that cater to tourists. They won't bite the hand that feeds them. I've spent about 24 years throughout all of Central America living and working there, I know what I'm talking about, for once.

So.

Hey, you have a very beautiful country, but it's the truth. Doesn't stop me from going there, I enjoy it.

I love casually strolling the streets of San Pedro Sula after sunset. Never a dull moment.

Just curious.....why Guatemala and Honduras? Of all the places in the world to travel to, what was the draw here?

We are building a couple of fences and small chicken coops for some good folks we know that live near Lake Atitlan. Going to La Ceiba to do some construction work on an orphanage near there. Any time we get to fish, hike or see sights is lagniappe.
I've been several times when I was younger but never gone as an adult.

I'm aware of how dangerous it is. One of the guys I work with went down to Guatemala City years ago and said on the side of a busy street there was a dude propped upwith a huge steak knife in his chest with a sign that said "child molester" on him. Not that I disagree with that but no doubt its a rough place

Visit coffee farms. That's what I'd would do mainly because I own a coffee roasting business.

Different strokes, different interests, running out of places.

I was on my way to Varanasi until the Ganges was too high to enjoy the aarti there. Varanasi is basically just Hindus going there to die and be burned, and I was very excited about it

My now wife was very happy we headed to Udaipur instead.
