We ate at a lot of great restaurants but two of our favorites were Halls Chop House and High Cotton. We also enjoyed having drinks at Husk after dinner.
The City Market is pretty cool to explore. We toured several houses, but our favorite was the Nathaniel Russell House.
Charleston is fairly easy to walk, not that big, so the first thing I would do is to just get out there and explore!

Now we just stop at TW Graham & Co. in McClellanville for seafood.
Shhh. Can’t let this place get overrun with tourists like every other decent spot in the Charleston area.
And you’re right about what Charlestonians have become. The over-saturation of NY and NJ transplants who view living in Charleston as if they were “selected” to move down here based upon some imaginary prestige has been tough to watch for the past 10 years.
And now it’s just the nonstop overdevelopment that is encroaching on every little neighborhood and refuge that once made Charleston great. Mount Pleasant is unrecognizable, Summerville is nothing but strip malls, John’s Island is putting up cookie-cutter homes so quickly that it’s likely they’re all destined to get flooded at some point.
I’ve come very close to buying property in Awendaw to create a little distance between the overpopulation but I’m sure it will only be a matter of time before that becomes annexed by Mt Pleasant developers.

It has great qualities but is overrated.
