The thing I remember the most is all the guys in full combat gear. These dudes had Kevlar helmets, full body armor, and to go with their M4s, a full load out of extra magazines. These guys were loaded out to do a full on urban assault of a fortified enemy position. But what they didn’t have, was any markings on their uniforms saying who they were. I’m guessing they were either FBI or ATF. But they had nothing on them identifying them as anything to do with law enforcement.

When you talk about lack of or minimal criminal activity, you’re just talking about general MCs, right? Or are you saying 1% too?

I’ll just say this, the amount of criminal activity in the MC world, including 1%er’s, is vastly overblown by the media. Not saying it doesn’t exist, but it’s nothing like what is portrayed.

FTR, the MC I belonged to is a three piece patch club, which some consider as akin to an “outlaw” club. It’s not though. Nor is it a 1%er club, though we had cordial and respectful relations with some such clubs.

Also, my older brother is a 1%er. He rides with Red & Gold.

The American Motorcyclists Association once said that 99% of bikers are law-abiding citizens, but there's that last "one percent" that are not – those folks, the AMA explained, are nothing more than "outlaws."

So the "outlaw" clubs started wearing a 1% diamond patch.

All kidding aside, it would be a bad idea for anyone to buy fake patches and go out wearing them, especially 1%er patches. It’s asking for trouble.

This stated due to a rally in California in the late 40s or early 50s. I think it was on Stockton maybe? A bunch of bikers got roaring drunk and basically rioted. It was a big story on the media. That’s why the AMA said that. Ever since, three pice patch and 1%er clubs have been at odds with the AMA.

ETA: it wasn’t Stockton, it was Hollister. And it happened in 1947.

One of the clubs involved in the incident was the Boozefighters MC. They have a chapter in north Alabama. We use to support their annual “Boobies” Run, an annual poker run to benefit breast cancer research.

You've said this a few times but you don't seem to be in any hurry to leave.

At a certain point you've no longer "stumbled into" a fig bar, and you're just hanging out at one.

Well, you most certainly seem to be a regular.

Out of curiosity, why are three piece patch groups considered “at odds” as well?

I honesty don’t know the origins of it other than it started with the riot in Hollister in 1947. Ever since then three piece patch clubs are looked upon as “outlaw” clubs. But it’s not exactly universal. For example, one of the most notorious 1%er clubs (which the AMA views the same as three piece patch clubs) is The Sons of Silence MC. They wear a two piece patch.

But basically it boils down to the fact three price patch and 1%er clubs are not part of the AMA.

I think what I’m missing is what’s inherent to the patch structure to make it outside the AMA? I appreciate that is probably a staggeringly ignorant question, but I’m not sure how else to phrase it

What does an AMA club signifier look like? Maybe that would help.

Uhh. Can you read a room dude?
Yeah this is a open secret discussion board for gay people mostly men, but usually not about gay issues (because we’re all gay and don’t need to beat off a dead horse although that is fun). There’s also an understood silence on not flirting or acting overtly gay (with many violators like Stout and that FL guy) because not needed here.
So sweety can you puhleeze calm down and go with the flow, hmm?

They tend to be a one piece patch, maybe just their name. And they usually don’t have an “MC” patch next to it. There are not that many AMA clubs that I’ve run across. And when we do, each doesn’t really interact with the other.
