Delgado. And no one said it was going to be prestigious.

That's a community college, not the same as a four year university

Don't forget that she was already years into a career and married to someone working. She paid without loans, which is great, but it's so a typical to the normal student that it's irrelevant to the discussion.

Sure, but you wouldn't have 20+ hours of your time already committed to school.

people whining that a college education is not possible without someone else paying the cost

No one is saying it's not possible, just that its very difficult to do without taking out loans.

Having zero parental support of any kind and zero financial aid is far more irrelevant.

However, are there jobs that are available to college students that would pay for $2000 per month?

Servers make that and more easily.

I have thought that the whole time this thread was talking about a 4 year university like LSU, ULL, ULM, etc.

All were talking about is if it's possible for students to be able to pay for college without loans in today's climate. I'm not sure why you're hung up on something else you've made up in your head. Maybe you though you were having a conversation with the voices there instead of on the bless.

"college" includes community colleges last time I checked.

ETA: LA Tech tuition and fees is $3k per semester for full time, ETA 2: Oops, quarter system at tech.

Yes but a community college degree does not provide the same opportunities as 4 year college.

$500 a month to housing and utilities
$500 for tuition/fees and books
$50 car isnurance
$50 cell phone
$500 food/living
the rest for whatever you feel I'm missing

And in a practical sense like the OP, many of these will be paid for by your parents. Deciding you can't afford to save for college doesn't necessarily mean you stop paying for their insurance, cell phone, meals, etc. It just means you can't afford an ADDITIONAL $10k+.

I don't believe that at all. You're assuming you stop after 2 years (Associates Degree). Most people I know do their 2 years in CC and finish in a 4 year college.

Tell that to an ChemE out of LSU making 100k. Yes you can do well out of CC, but to say that on average the education and benefits are equal to a 4 year college is just not true.

So don't take 18 hours, take 6 or 9, what does it matter when you are 40 years old that it took 6 years to graduate instead of 4.

2 years of salary plus compounding interest on whatever you saved?

Spending $100K of your parents money on your education instead of allowing it to remain invested and compounding for 3o years to avoid losing two years of future earnings does not seem like much of a solution financially.

That's interesting considering LA Tech is on the quarter system
