State law ONLY ALLOWS 4 PPL. VAN OR NO VAN.
Do you have a link to this law? I've ridden in plenty of cabs in Louisiana with 4+ people.
quote:
EVERY YELLOW CAB DRIVER IN BATON ROUGE HAS TO TAKE CREDIT CARDS. IF THEY SAY ITS BROKE TELL THEM HANG ON LET ME CALL THE OFFICE. TELL WHOEVER ANWSERS THE PHONE THAT DRIVER SAID CC MACHINE IS BROKE. IF STAND TELLS YOU YES THEN THEY ARE DOWN BUT 99.9% OF THE TIME THEY WORK. SO WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT YOUR RIDE IS FREE AND THE DRIVER JUST SCREWED HIMSELF OVER!!!!!!!

I do have regular customers though. The reason that is they learned that good tips lead to being picked up a more sure thing.
So if I am required to tip well and often to get on the "good" list to be picked up, is it safe to assume that if I call to complain about a credit card machine forcing a cab driver to give me a free ride, I will be added to a "bad" and encounter even more problems with getting a cab?

FIFY and obviously anyone that has a credit card and smartphone will always choose Uber.

What factors?
The demand is there with LSU
It's easy to become a driver. The market will be flooded with them. It won't be a profitable venture in BR.
It is if you drive in San Fran or NYC, etc.
Uber will be great in Br for the riders but shitty for the drivers.

It will be very profitable in BR but only as a part-time job.

Ok....it's called market economics.
If there are too many drivers, some well quit.
Good god, it's almost, like some of you want to pay more and receive shittier service.

The only thing I wonder about is people giving 1* just to get a free ride. I would see that being more prone in a college town
I think it will be a huge hit in BR & NOLA

Meh. From what I gather, people are just doing it as a side job. I mean if you can get paid to sit at home and wait for a call how is it not profitable for you? You're just dicking off at home when you'd normally be watching netflix or something.
If it's busy, you'll make a lot of money. If not then you just sat on your couch for a little bit of extra cash.

You have to be in your car to have your phone on. Über tracks their drivers big time.

Derp. Uber will be great for riders. I'm in favor of that.
But you need to rethink your life if you want to drive for Uber in BR. It would be a lot of fun in SF, NYC, Dallas, etc.

I live above my parking spot so I could get away with it but I have a 2 door car and no interest.

How do they know you aren't in your car?
Only thing I can think of is the phone has to be near the Uber hang tag to work.. which would be easy to bring inside...

The only time I did it I got reimbursed and $25 credit.
The guy was awful though. Not only did he disregard what I asked he went off on how 9/11 was an inside job

They obviously know your home address. Very few people can hang out at their house and say I am waiting on fares

College student drivers may put their parent's house as their home address and wait for riders at their apartment near campus.

I live within a 5 minute walk of over 100 bars, not exaggerating, so I am pretty sure I would be ok!
