Amen we are talking about two totally different types. Oilfield guys like to be outside. They have an "outside dog" perspective on life. They generally do not do yoga, believe in "self care" (other than booze and tobacco) and do not look to the company to "take care of them". They take care of themselves and look out for themselves.

You will not find these dudes being a barista when it gets slow. They are generally itching to get out of the house.

It's honestly a fine place to raise a family, the community is very nice and supporting. When oil prices fall there is a lot of people leaving town and the economy suffers to an extent. I wouldn't ever buy a house there but I wouldn't be opposed to living there in the future if it helped my career. There are much worse places imo. It does have an airport you can take to anywhere.
