Wife has a 96 Z71 with the Vortec. Drives it to work every day (70 mile round trip through the country); Great truck - very very reliable.

It would be the dream truck if is was a '96-98 with the Vortec engine.

That's the LS Vortec.
The Vortec I was talking about was the previous gen 350 small block Vortec.
The old 350 Vortecs didn't have the HP of the LS, but they have a lot more low end torque. I actually prefer them around town to the 5.3 LS that replaced them. The torque is very noticeable starting from a stop.

I had an 81 Sierra in high school with the 350. I'd love to still have it. Somewhat similar to this one
