I believe this Summer will end up alot like 1980. It has been hot so far in the Southeast, but not remarkably so, while it has absolutely baked further West. It'll get hot again for most of us starting tomorrow, but nothing like OK and TX today. 1980 was similar.
I've looked at Huntsville, Birmingham, Mobile, Memphis, Jackson, and NOLA for the 1980s. All but Jackson were below normal for the decade as far as the Summer months go, and the Jackson area was only just above normal. So far this Summer it has tracked similarly.
1980 was the hottest Summer of the 80s for all of those areas.
