One time, my grandpappy rode for 2 weeks with ole Newt and Devil Anse McCoy on a single horse all the way to New Orleans to deliver intel from president Lincoln to General Andrew Jackson that the British had surrendered. Legend has it that ole Newt became a little too close with the horse.

I don't know of any other places that fought both sides, unless you're referring to the troops taking everything from the towns they went through.
