Just started listening to the "Culpable" podcast covering this story. It's produced by the same group, not the same guy though, that did the Up and Vanished poscast. So far, it's pretty interesting, but I haven't gotten to the real story about WHY nobody believes it was suicide yet.

They go into the forensics of it later on in the series and some things especially regarding his girlfriend that are frankly difficult to believe.

Culpable is the podcast.Really good one, but super frustrating to listen to with everything that was clearly purposefully overlooked.
Basically a kid was shot in the head and killed by someone else but it was staged to look like a suicide. Girlfriend was apparently home but was passed out and the roommate was gone running errands more or less. Investigation took 30 minutes and was quickly ruled suicide.
The basic facts of the case rule out suicide but law enforcement refuses to re-open after years and a bunch of new evidence.
