Ah the 90's. You played outside with the neighborhood kids because your game system didn't have internet. When you called a girl, you had to ask a parent or sibling if you could talk to them. You could smoke anywhere. If you beat up a kid that was picking on you, no one got sued or expelled. Teams had try-outs. Everyone had scrambled HBO or a "box" that unscrambled it. It was fun...but it's long gone.

Then there were the stories of young guys having to keep their penthouse or similar magazines in a zip lock bag out in the woods somewhere.

Nah bruh... 90's cartoons were better.

Depends on what you like:

80's: G.I. Joe, TMNT, He-Man, Transformers, Thundercats, Voltron, Ghostbusters, Captain Planet, Robotech, every other violent cartoon out there

90's: Dexter's Lab, Ren & Stimpy, Beavis & Butthead, Doug, Rugrats, Rocco's modern life, Johnny Bravo, Animaniacs, The disney ones (Chip&Dale, Darkwing, tailspin, duck tales). No violence at all.

Tom and jerry, bugs bunny, road runner and coyote etc all had great violence.

Simpsons showed up in the 80s too.

Yeah. You had to know a guy to get porn back then. You would get so excited when you found a blank VHS tape at someone's house.

The 90's were good but the 80's were better IMO.

The 80's and 90's were a good combo.

as far as just music..Loved the thrash and death metal of the 80s, and black metal of the early 90's.

Entertainment skyrocketed in those two decades.

True. Most of my childhood was in the 80's (I was born in 1970) and and my 20's were spent in the 90's. All in all it was a great time to be a kid.

Isn't it interesting that each of these problems seem to be a lot bigger today than they were at the time

Operative word highlighted. It's media driven, none of things things are actually a bigger threat/issue today than they were then (save for maybe wars), it just feels that way

I dunno. Seems there is a lot more terrorism going on now than in the 80's & 90's.

Leave out Enron and Reality TV, then flip your 9 upside down.

Ya I'm kinda on the fence on that one. Since 9/11 everything has been on lockdown, I would argue the threat of a terrorist attack is much lower than it was 20 years ago. Speaking for this country only

Yeah, we're much more alert to it now. I do think it's much more of an issue for Europe now than it was then. I was stationed in Germany from late 1988 through early 91 and there was like virtually zero Muslim population there at that time, that's not the case now.

9/11 instilled a lot of paranoia, and rightfully so, it's hard to argue with two towers suicide bombed and leveled in the USA's greatest city. America became more involved, therefore we see a lot more of it. It's been going on a long time, we just see more of it by being more involved. And it's good for ratings.

Less paranoia inspired laws = less stresses on society.

BTW, 80s destroys 90s when it comes to cartoons.

Go watch a random episode of Batman the Animated Series, then watch a random episode of GI Joe or Thundercats, and you'll realize one is well made and enjoyable and the other is shite. If you tell any animation buff that the 80s was a better time for cartoons than the 90s were, they'd laugh you right out of the room.

Gargoyles, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, and Superman were more violent than basically any of those you listed in the 80s, and all of these actually had decent plots and characters.

I know about the crime stats but I still feel like crime is just as bad now. The trash areas are more spread out now so crime is more widespread. All of us have seen decent neighborhoods turn trash thx to Section 8, but relatively few neighborhoods gentrify.

Birmingham, AL is a perfect example of this, especially north Birmingham in places like Center Point & Roebuck. These places in the 80's were really nice, upper middle class communities. Now they're crime infested ghettos. Next up in the process is places like Pinson, Clay, & Trussville.

I agree that the composition of it has changed for the worse. What you speak of is one of the scarier things about buying property, the idea that the nice neighborhood you buy your home in will soon turn to shite and the home prices will plummet along with it
