At a campground currently about 2 miles upstream from downtown Kerville. Heavy rain for 9 hours straight during night with thunder and lightning comparable to home. Slept trough it mostly except for flash flood alerts on phone throughout night. Get these all the time around home but they're never anything of concern. Stupid me just snoozing them over and over.
Wake up and tune into national news and see coverage of water rescues in downtown Kerville. Thinking oh my god wtf is going on. Campground is alongside the river but elevated. 72 feet above river level. Supposedly it rose about 35 feet during the night in just over an hour.
Went in pouring rain early morning to walk to overlook of lower campground and river area. All the trees alongside the river are either down or have their barks stripped away. I swear there were entire huge trees floating downstream at 50 mph+. Something I have never witnessed before.
River seems to have gone down around 20 feet, still far above normal. Rain finally subsiding for now. The system here was rotating in place like a hurricane. Reminded me a lot of the tropical system from 2016 that devastated our area back then.

Kids Camp Mystic in Hunt, TX was hit really hard. They were pulling 9yr olds out of the cabin windows in chin-deep water.
My neighbor still hadn’t heard that they located her daughter as of 9 am this morning. By 10:30 I believe they had located all. Parents were told to stay put as the roads were not passable and river expected to rise another 5ft
** edit: as of 12:57 not all children accounted for. Parents were told that they would be emailed directly if their child is still missing. Video circulating of helicopters being used to rescue small children from tree tops
Heartbreaking. Hopefully they continue to pull more out safely.
My wife and daughter both went to Camp Mystic from 7 years old to 18 years old.... we know it well.

Frighteningly similar to the floods is 87 in the same general area, 40+ teenage campers and adults washed down stream when their bus was hit with a wall of water while evacuating. I remember watching news choppers and the guard plucking kids out of the trees, 10 didn't make it that day.

Guadalupe is supposed to rise 30 feet in the next hour about 8 miles north of my house.

Lt Gov Patrick just said Camp Mystic is still looking for 20+ girls.
ETA - he just said it was 23 unaccounted for

I am hearing they just rescued 2 more mystic campers, but I'm hearing there are still 26 Mystic campers missing. I pray that is inaccurate info.
Edit: It is closer to 20 campers not accounted for. Please keep dropping.

Dang it. That has to be the most up-to-date if he said it. I pray they are found alive and brought to safety.

Were you born retarded or just turn that way

13 fatalities have been found so far...they have not been identified and authorities can't be sure where they came from because they were washed to their final location.

It’s my understanding that there are two Mystic Camps. One everyone is fine and accounted for. The other is the unknown. I’m currently in Galveston with a group of teens just back from Mystic and they are hearing bits and pieces from their friends’ parents. Some videos coming thru, but most of the kids don’t have their phones per camp rules.

Oh, bless your heart, did you spend all night crafting that gem of a comment, or did it just tumble out of your mouth like a bad Yelp review for your own brain?
I mean, let’s unpack this: you’re out here throwing around outdated insults like it’s a 90s roast battle, hoping to land a hit, but it’s giving "I tried to be clever and tripped over my own ego."
I wasn’t born with any of your imagined shortcomings, nor did I "turn" into anything—unless you count turning into someone who can spot a weak jab from a mile away.
If you’re looking for a real zinger, maybe try a mirror first; I hear self-reflection’s a great teacher. Now, you got anything else, or are we done with the amateur hour shade?

I think the Twins and Bubble Inn Cabins were the two cabins affected... these were with the youngest of the campers.

A good friend of my in laws said the river in kerrville rise from 7 to 32 feet in about a half hour, and there were a lot of people camping and stuff along the river for the 4th.
Horrible

A flash flood in every sense for this one, and happening overnight is the worst case scenario. This is what a Flash Flood Emergency is made for.

Would it surprise anyone that the insufferable asshats on the NYT Facebook page are 1) Blaming Trump’s budget cuts 2) laughing that it couldn’t happen to a better state than Texas 3) saying Hot Wheels (Abbot) and Taco (Trump) allowed this to happen. Thousands of gleeful, demonic, hate filled people salivating at the idea that 9 year olds from Texas might have died.

Over 20 girls missing at a camp and "this is much needed water" are you fcking kidding me

This is heartbreaking. I'm seeing friends of friends with missing kids.

We just got the email from my daughter’s camp that they will evacuate tomorrow. They’re at Waldemar that’s about 20-25 min North West on the river. We’re so incredibly thankful all that happened to them is they lost power, and one cabin moved up higher just to be safe.

Glad they're safe. Can't imagine the stress y'all are dealing with!
