My earliest Christmases were at my Great-Grandmother’s house, when she died it was my Geandmother’s house. This is extended family, aunts, great aunts, second, third cousins. It was a huge gathering. She got too old to host so it moved to my Mother’s house. She died a few year’s ago and it’s been at my house since. I’m doing everything I can to keep the spirit of Christmas at MiMi’s alive at my home but it’s hard because there just isn’t many of us left alive.

I feel this.

Growing up I had more cousins and aunts and uncles and the amount of people always celebrating seemed endless.

Now they're almost all gone and while I have my own family now I miss the ones I grew up with and I'm sad my kids didn't get to meet crazy uncle who would sneak rum into the egg nog.

I try to keep some traditions alive and more recently have been remembering and making certain recipes at Thanksgiving and Christmas that I grew up with for my kids.

Everybody got hammered, even the kids. I remember being too hung over to open my presents the next morning when I was about 10. Gin with a beer chaser was a bad choice. Everybody quit drinking when I was a teenager and Christmas was a lot calmer after that.

My grandmother somehow had those exact aam readers digest santa and miss santa. It's wierd to me that they are homemade yet absolutely identical to the ones she had.

Christmas Eve was always at our house with all grandparents and my uncle and aunt.

My grandmother would take us upstairs to look out the window for Santa and his reindeer in the sky (I guess so they could put presents out).

Yeah.. we were gullible.

Mom would cook for everybody on Christmas Day (except aunt and uncle... they went to her family's house).

My aunt would always bring us a huge tin of homemade cookies that she made in a cookie press (they had ridges like Ruffles) with either red and green sprinkles or the little chocolate pellet sprinkles. In return, my mom would bake a date cake for my uncle.

The above went on for many years. Miss this. Dad died 5.5 years ago and Mom died this week 5 years ago, 10 days before Christmas Eve.

Onions now.

Straight Up Blessed is all I can describe it as

Christmas Eve at Auntie's - presents

Christmas Day - presents at home and stocking stuffers

Praise God for my blessed childhood

I had one of those Mattel football games and loved it. I played that thing until I wore it slap out.

My childhood Christmases were pretty damn good, my dad wasn't too much into it but my mom was like a female Santa Claus, she was really into the spirit of it and made sure us kids were happy.

Same. Had the original model that came out in the late 70's. It was a stocking gift which were always the best. Those gumball Riddel NFL helmets (all teams) and NFL pencils. It was the 70's, we were easily amused.

Worst sports related gifts came the same year. Mom ordered a Mean Joe Green Steeler uniform from the JC Penny catalog. When it arrived, it was a mix-up and ended up with an Atlanta Falcon Steve Bartkowski uniform. Returns were a hassle, so I kept it. Living in Texas I got a lot of strange looks.

Then I got this abomination that I asked for not knowing how it worked.

Dogs ate all the little foam footballs and Jim Youngblood's arm by lunch. Never touched it after.

If that's the one that you turned it on and all the pieces just vibrated randomly all over the board I had it to. That one sucked

That is the one. The 1980 Steelers/Rams Super Bowl Edition. Just players vibrating all over the place. How they expected you to throw a pass with all that going on was crazy.
