I'm thinking that is a Heinz 57 cur dog. Little bit of everything in it. Good looking pup. Be a great dog.

I came in to post almost the exact same thing, especially the "Heinz 57" part. No telling what the bitch has in her since she doesn't look dominant in any breed that I'm familiar with, just your typical mutt.

The dad looks like a pure boxer. Pup favors a boxer a good bit too. I know how to handle a boxer well, just don't know what I would get in the Cur bloodline. So I'm torn on what to do. Recommendations for keeping it inside? Also, thoughts on male or female?

Yes, and thank goodness for looking more like the dad this time around.

As far as which sex, that would depend on if you are going to neuter the dog or not. A female goes into heat a few times a year and that would be a mess inside a house, once they are spayed, problem solved. Since this is not a pure bred dog, no sense in dealing with pups.

I'm not a fan of a dog in the house but that has become the popular trend for many years now. Drawbacks include housebreaking them for starts. Then going through their teething phase where everything seems to be a chew toy to them. If you have good hardwood floors, they will scratch them up with their claws. Carpeted areas, if still in your home will need to be cleaned more and hold more "pet odor" than hard surfaces like tiles or vinyl would.

If out in the yard, they will form paths they like and probably kill the grass they trod on every day, several times a day. Some dogs are diggers when the summer heat comes and will excavate holes to lie in next to the cooler soil. Of course there's the dog crap issue, but that is an issue whether they are in or out.

Where they live is all up to what you, or your better half is willing to put up with.

Yeah, certainly plan to.

Is that the momma dog? She looks to be a yellow blackmouth cur, or a mix. Blackmouth curs are good, tough dogs. Any working breed is gonna be somewhat hard headed as pups, but you'll be happy in the end.

The mom is in the picture on page 1. The dad is the boxer on page 2.

I have a female buckskin black mouth cur that looks almost to the one in that pic. About 80 lbs. Best dogs ever

eta: pull their fur back and if their skin is black then it likely is.

I’ve got a cur with a little bit of ridgeback mix. Awesome dog especially if you’ve got a family but I don’t know if that’s a general characteristic or if I got an outlier. Hes great with my 2 small kids but He’s extremely active and needs lots of outside time or he gets restless. He’s very obedient but the only thing that he does is he will chase anything he sees even if it’s 1/4 mile down the road, he’s made it halfway up some trees going after squirrels which was just impressive to see. He’s also a terrible swimmer and hates the water, and he’s also a little bit racist (hopefully that’s the ridgeback in him)

Have a female blackmouth cur. Very high energy, but very smart as well and great with kids.

I was raised with outside only dogs. Had a roommate with an inside dog and I never looked back. Now I’ve got two smaller labs that are inside dogs. Probably won’t ever have a pure outside dog again.
Make him/her apart of the family and you’ll have a great dog.

My dog is a "Cajun Squirrel Dog". 1/2 Tennessee Mountain Fiest, 1/2 Black Mouth Cur.....She's the smartest dog Ive ever been around. She can pick up almost anything in 30 mins. She was trained to "Get on the bike" and "Load Up" Bike/Truck at 3months old. . Got her from a guy in St. Amant a few days before the flood. Im afraid the rest of the litter may not have made it due to the areas fast rising water.

cur
[kur]

noun
1.
a mongrel dog, especially a worthless or unfriendly one.

The term is old and referred to mongrels. It is often used now in reference to several mixed breeds that are not always "officially" recognized breeds. Here is a website with info regarding several types.

I've always heard nothing but good things. Good with family, good with children. Supposed to be some tough arse dogs...
Old man I respected the hell out of said he used to have one that once grabbed a bull by his nose and fought him down to the ground...

My daughter (no pics) has a black mouth cur dog. She is the sweetest dog I've ever been around and very smart. She also plays well with my 2 dogs. I love that dog.
She is very active and has access to a large yard. We have a doggie door so not an issue for us.

Yeah I wish could have that Pup next to the daddy boxer in that picture. That is from another litter. Probably a pure bred boxer. Its the Cur I was curious about.
