Invest in a row machine, stationary bike, lat pulldown, something more practical that you would likely stick with. Other than people going through a craze type moment in their lives, when was the last time someone told you that hitting the heavy bag is a typical workout?

Thanks for the advice, but I like to box. It's an outlet for me in many ways. I have other exercise equipment, it isn't just about exercise for me.

I had a heavy bag throughout high school and miss the hell out of it.

Quality row machine or bike is a few hundred. Lat pulldown machine too. It's a garage gym, it doesn't have to be a Peloton.

It's not a garage gym and I already own a Peloton.

I'm the only house in my part of the neighborhood without a three car garage.

I'm also the only one with a garage gym.

This irks me to no end.

Okay. I assumed it was a garage gym since you said you had a 3 car garage and 2 cars, and the 3rd port had some room in it.

Like someone else said, put some stringers over your rafters and connect to that. They make some springs for it also which will help a lot. Before I added the spring, my whole garage would shake

Some are 80 lbs and I feel like that would be too light.

If you're not going to be kicking, 80 pounds is absolutely fine.

You're not training for the heavyweight championship - you're just trying to get into shape. 75 to 80 is the classic "heavy bag" size.

I would, but my garage has 25 ft ceilings

We're built into the side of a hill and the garage is the low point of the house.

I would kill for 25 foot ceilings to hang a heavy bag. You do realize that having a bag hanging from a long chain is what every boxer dreams of hitting, right? The bag glides instead of sharp choppy swings. You can cut angles and work on your rhythym so much better when you have a bag hanging from such a tall ceiling. It allows you to stay more disciplined and not get too front end loaded like just whaling away on a bag hanging from an 8-foot garage ceiling.
