re: Teachers not rounding final grades at LSU

Have a friend who is a professor at a college in California. She said five minutes after grades posted and she already had 10 emails of kids asking to have their grade rounded up. So the problem is too many are asking for grades to be rounded and professors just have to say no now. Make the grades, show your face during office hours, let it be known you make an effort. Think at this point you have your C.

Another grading example from this semester:
I have a teacher whose grading scale is so subjective and convoluted that I had no real idea to my standing on a test or what it meant to my final grade.
But I got a B and I'm happy with that

Keep in mind that a grade of "B" reflects above average mastery of the material in the course, and is considered an exemplary grade. A "C" reflects average mastery of the material and meeting the objectives of the course. There is no shame in a "C".
All of that said, I do not curve grades, inflate grades, nor deflate grades. What's there is there. If the class makes "A's" and "B's", then it's Miller's time. However, if that does not happen, it is certainly not the end of the world. As professors, we have a responsibility to maintain the academic integrity of the course. Not everyone gets a trophy unless they have actually earned it.
I doubt seriously that I am near being the toughest professor in the LSU System, but I do take the concept of academic rigor seriously.
I have seen more schools than I care to remember wind up graduating illiterate dumbasses, just because it was going to hurt someone's feelings that they got a "C" instead of an "A". Folks do not understand, that touchy feely shite actually does a disservice to the student.
In order to get what you want, you give the professor what they want, at the level of quality that they want. It's quid pro quo.
