Should get the robocall in the AM.

quote:

AMITE---Due to changes in the forecast track of the remnants of Hurricane Harvey, the Tangipahoa Parish School System will cancel classes on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Mark Kolwe said all 12-month employees and custodians should report to their work sites, weather permitting. Anyone who cannot safely travel to work should contact their immediate supervisor as soon as possible. “The safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our top priority,” Kolwe said, adding that the district will continue to monitor the weather and offer updates via local media, the school system website, and the TPSS Facebook page as information becomes available.

St. Tammany seems to be good at waiting until the last minute to make a decision from what I've seen in the past.

We value our education and don't see the need to let the kids out when there is a 50% chance of rain for the day.

I think it's an over cautious move too, and I think it was made mainly to social pressure. These tangi moms were losing their minds on social media last night, and the made the call around midnight.

Is there a real threat of flooding out in St Tammany?

I honestly didn't think it had moved that far east.

There is a flood warning for one of the rivers near downtown Covington. Other than that, nothing should really get wet.

What I don't understand is the "change in forecast/path" Tangi and LSU are citing. The predictions started looking better for SELa by the time LSU made the decision last night. This morning? It doesn't make sense.

We got lucky here in Louisiana from the dry slot to subtle atmospheric features slamming Texas and avoiding us. So yay that, but there's always a missing logic to these closure decisions.

Don't fool yourself. Not much teaching is going on in St. Tammany. All they do is bombard these kids with hours of homework and where the parents are actually the ones teaching the kids every night. Makes no damn sense for a kid to spend 7 hours a day at school and then have 4 hours of homework to do when they get home.
