Couldn't you just sling box the shite to your tailgating tv, if ur service is compatible and has sling service(dish
You can't get enough Internet on LSU campus GameDay for slingbox

Make sure the box you take is a dedicated receiver and not a "genie client"
The power inserters for directv are on Amazon and other places. It inserts power into the coax line.
Their are signal strength meters that will display on TV once your box is plugged in but it is very tedious.

I guess just have someone watching the tv as someone moves the dish, right? Then they hollar..."got a good picture"... am I on the right track?
Much more difficult than that. Assuming you are using a tripod, and have no signal meter it will be very difficult the first time.
Do you know anybody who sets up where you do and uses a DirecTV setup?
Otherwise you are going to need a level to make absolutely sure the dish is level. Plus a compass or smartphone to know the right direction to point. Then you will need to fine adjust depending on your tripod setup.
Your first time expect to take at least an hour and possibly longer.
