not even the 2.8L duramax? they are claiming 400 lb ft of torque at 2k rpms. that sounds like a good combo
Duramax diesel Colorado is a great vehicle, albeit not cheap.

increased fuel costs aren't worth it imo
The diesel is much more fuel efficient, and tows more than the V6.
BTW if you want an affordable, reliable off road vehicle, try to find a Nissan Frontier 4x4. They are very old school and not nearly as nice as the newer Colorado or Canyon, but they are also much cheaper.

I have had both the Taco and the Colorado. Both were V-6 4x4 versions.
The Taco was reliable but had it's faults. Drivetrain vibration issues, frame rust, and can count on a water pump replacement at 125K miles, guaranteed. Rode rough, plastic bed and interior hasn't changed in almost 10 years. Gas mileage ok but not what a mid-size truck should get.
Colorado was better looking, rode 10 times better, was more solidly built, less interior noise, nicer interior, WAY more features and much better gas mileage. If you are getting a V-6 truck then the Colorado is your pick hands down....no contest.
If you plan ON TOWING ANYTHING OVER 2,000 LBS you need the V-6 or diesel...period. If less than that then the 4-cylinder will be fine.
The ONLY thing the Toyota will give you is higher resale. If you think you'll be getting out of this truck in the next 3-5 years then go with the Toyota. If not then stick with the Colorado.
