Then why are you arguing about it like a 12yr old girl?

Call of Duty and 12-year old girls is what you've brought to the discussion. I think you're done here. Agreed?

Why is that outlandish in your opinion?

Meh, if he'd have used that pistol on his belt then maybe we could talk.

Why is throwing a football different than firing a rifle? Is that your question?

If you're all fairly confident you couldn't hit a target at 100 yards with a rifle you're proficient with

Now, you very well know (and GT23 knows) that making a hole in a piece of paper from 100 yards, from a rest, when you've gone out there to do that exact thing is a completely different act than shooting a person, when your brothers are in harm's way. Completely different.

Now, 100 yards isn't that far. I'm confident I can take 50 OTers who've never fired a weapon out to a military range and have them hitting 100s with iron sights relatively easily, and I've very little experience in teaching marksmanship. From a military standpoint, I'm not even that good of a shot, particularly 200 and over - having only flirted with expert qualification (34 a couple of times on pop ups, needing 36, and 37 on the Course C a handful of times, needing 38).

But to pretend this shot was routine, no big deal, "day at the range" stuff is just nonsense posturing.

Since Lee Harvey Oswald and Charles Whitman, Marines think they can do anything with a rifle.

There's like 75 people in the world who can be an NFL QB. There's probably like 20k police snipers in the US. God knows how many swat guys. The average engagement distance in Afghanistan is 300+ and 19 year old kids were making those shots everyday.

I'd be very interested to know what type of funeral he has given, who attends, and who pays. I wonder if the media will cover this. It would be very interesting to see how that played out.
IMO everyone at it should be detained and water boarded

How do I know it wasn't a world class shot?

It was 100 yards.

Anyone that has ever hunted will tell you that not all hundred yard shots are the same. The Sheriff said it was "a helluva shot" "through" an obstruction. He didn't call it a "world class shot" ... Every police agency in Louisiana were involved in the investigation. The Sheriff called it, and I'll take his word for it.

Well, I apologize that I couldn't channel my backyard Red Ryder experience to offer up anything of substance here. I guess I was shocked to click on this thread and see so many expert marksmen. I should've known better with the OT.

Noo....These OT'ers claim every 100 yard shot is easy.

just as a 100 yard shot shouldn't be difficult for a well trained, expert SWAT Sniper

Many are hyping it up to be some kind of world class shot though. It wasn't

No it wasn't, but under that kind of pressure and situation is certainly wasn't simple.

Why would he be shooting from a rest? I sure wouldn't, and I assume BRPD SWAT's trainers also know better. I also assume they have a decent training program that artificially induces stress. Most do, to varying degrees.

I've spent a lot of time on the range shooting with and training Marines and Sailors. I know better.

You stand 25 yards from me and I'll hit you with a catchible pass 100% of the time.

You start running laterally and the chances drop a bit, not much...but a little. Now put both of us in motion and the odds decrease. Put someone rushing me, covering you and we now have a difficult pass.

ANYONE who has hunted will tell you that 100 yard shots when both targets are static, no obstruction and time to shoot is a gimme. There are factors which can make it much more difficult.

What you really should have done is kept your mouth closed if "backyard Red Ryder experience" is all you had to offer. No worries, though.

Adrenaline is one of them along with breathing. We don't realize how often we hold our breath in anticipation of something. Ive done it before in certain instances without even realizing it and couple it with the adrenaline dumb and next thing you know you are shaking uncontrollably.

When I tested for the AST years ago, we had to run a specific distance, put the pistol through a small ring and hit a target roughly 10 yards away. Lots of folks failed, they couldn't keep from hitting the ring while holding the pistol.
