Aren't the insects horrible up there for the brief summer, ie mosquitos?
I've had to go to northwest Siberia for work in the summer, and the mosquitos are absolutely terrible there. Worse than louisiana swamps. Huge and swarming. I was shocked since it was Siberia, and I knew how cold it was in winter (-40 or so), I just wasn't ready for swamp weather.

Watched that documentary "Happy People: A Year on the Taiga" san and I was amazed at all the mosquitoes in summer time. Like they get a full 6 months of mosquitoes crammed into a few weeks.

Is it more cool or weird? seems like it'd get old after a while.

Yep. Doesn't help Fall is my favorite time of year too.

I just wish we got cold fronts up here like they do back home. I miss thunderstorms

I'd like to try that, I've had sort of a vampire schedule for most of my time at work, and I kind of like extreme weather

I could live in Alaska and a lot of other northern states like Idaho or Montana. Unfortunately I'd have to get divorced first.

It has rained in South Louisiana about 25 of the last 30 days. Luckily it's kept the summer very mild

or some reason, this is fascinating to me...I would like to live there for a year just to experience these periods where the sun never rises/sets....

How about the period from December to March when the average high temp is -6 and the average low is -20...

I couldn't live in a place so cold that my balls may freeze.

There's a place in Norwsy that uses massive mirrors to reflect sunlight into their town because of this exact reason

Seasonal affective disorder. Lots of people get it down here in WA. I'm sure it's a bitch in AK.

Thank you. I was trying to remember where I saw it after I read the Siberia comment. Looked like a nightmare.
