It's one of my least worries. I don't care if people get fat.
Inactivity is the main problem. The average kid gets less time outdoors than the average max security inmate.
I'm perfectly fine with society going to shite.

Me either. I couldn't care less about it.
I want my BMI to be under 25 so I can qualify for discounts on my insurance premiums at work.
We do this program called Vitality. You get points for different things (workouts that are tracked with your phone fitness device, getting a physical, etc). You need 10K points to qualify for the biggest insurance premium discount.
I'm under 25 now and considered "normal" by the BMI chart. Yet I still need to lose at least another 20-25 lbs to get back to my normal. So I would say BMI is pretty lenient (at least for me and my body type)

You must not care about insurance costs then

It has been proven by the STAMPEDE study that for us fat people, gastric bypass surgery or a sleeve helps control weight better after 5 years than anything else.
Something to think about.

Not really. I have good insurance. It limits my costs, so don't care.

I argue that is because before and after bariatric surgery most doctors will have you in strict dietary regimens that help you learn how to eat long-term.
I think bariatric surgery is great as an intervention for those that are eating themselves to death. Most people need to just learn the basics, change their environment, and their mentality. It's a tough sell and tough change and it has to be a priority for you.. so most people don't do it. Facing a major surgery is a good motivator to do all of those things.
Frankly, most people are also wimps and afraid to take responsibility for themselves. It's hard to hold yourself accountable but not abuse yourself mentally when you mess up or don't follow through with yourself.

I also believe a sedentary lifestyle only makes things like depression worse.
Absolutely. People were meant to do things outdoors. Depression and getting away from the outdoors are related.
Nature does a lot to relive stress and increase mental well being.

You have to be considered obese to even quality for that type of surgery.
My BMI barely crossed over into "overweight". Highest it went was 25.1. My goal weight (weight I was on my wedding day)....puts my BMI back down to the 20 range.

According to my fancy scale, my body fat % is now at 18.7%.
10 years ago, it was much higher so even if the number isn’t exact, it’s directionally headed the right way.
But I’m fricked when it comes to BMI. Always have been.

Oh, I am. Since I stopped worrying about things others do that used to bother me, my inner peace is at an all time high. I'll live out my life as I see fit and will let others do the same.

I think a lot of the issues with modern civilization come down to convenience
Mostly. Cheap "luxury" has become accepted as something everyone has to have. Deep inside, most people are lazy and think their life is fulfilled at work. They don't have a real life, hobbies, friends, loves, passions.
the only exercise some get is in the gym and people still need to get outside and do things for their own mental health. Stop scheduling everything, be spontaneous, go the the park and have some fun with the kids, hiking, hunting, fishing (fly)

people in general are fatter now than in the past. Add to that the popularity of ” working out ” in corporation ” gyms ” like planet fitness and shite like that, I could see how these places are populated with larger than average chicks.
My recollection of the 2000’s as were that not many women went to gyms at all, but the ones that did go were serious. Now it’s a mindless exercise ( no pun ) to go ” workout “.
Don’t grunt or bang the weights though.
