Looking to pull carpet in side of house with the kids' bedrooms. They tie into a hall with dark hardwood. Anybody with experience with stain/epoxy? Pointers?

I hear it's a pain in the arse
I'd probably just put more wood down before I tried etching, etc

Don't stain the Goddamn floor. If you've got cracks then put some Henry levelor down. Then put down laminate or hardwood to match the existing hall and don't forget your moisture barrier.
