St. Rita's Nursing Home Is Back... Sort Of

If this name doesn't ring a bell... 35 elderly residents drowned there in St Bernard Parish during Katrina. The owners were charged in their deaths, and in a high-profile trial held in St. Helena (due to concerns about a fair trial in St Bernard) somehow they were found not guilty.
They are back... and have opened an independent and assisted living facility (not a nursing home)... in the same location.
Same owners are involved... although they have additional partners now as well.

They are correct in that there aren't many options like this in St Bernard... There's St Bernard Manor and really that's about it.
But man... I feel like there is some bad, bad juju with this place.

Maybe it’s time to move on from the nursing home business

On WWL the owners said they'd only take residents who were capable of evacuating. So if an old person breaks their hip in early August do they get evicted?

No way in hell these people should be given a license to operate another such facility even though they were found not guilty by a jury of their peers.
I really don't understand how this could happen given their track record of not taking proper action when Katrina was heading our way, especially with so many folks not ambulatory.
