Why is it that NFL, MLB, NBA; can all have their own rules regardless of state. However, sports like boxing and MMA are restricted to state level guidelines?

Probably has something to do with punching each other in the face repeatedly for 30 min.

I’m no expert though.

because you don’t play boxing or MMA… they want to make sure everyone who fights is able to and in condition to. Otherwise someone’s safety is at risk

But is the NFL and NHL not a violent sport? I just find it odd they we have state regulatory boards for some and not all.

Because in boxing and MMA men are paid for doing something they'd get arrested for if they did it on the street for free

If you tackled or checked someone into a wall in the streets you should be arrested. I understand the point your trying to make, but most sports are violent.

The NFL, MLB and NBA are powerful. No boxing or MMA league is really that powerful, or as well respected.
Baseball has antitrust exemptions, and the other two leagues may too. They make their own rules.

ETA: The state rules may apply in some situations.
Pretty sure the Mavericks allowed a larger percentage of their area's capacity than the Clippers did this year in the 1st round of the NBA playoffs.

ETA: Home cookin’ won’t be equal for all NBA playoff teams (on DeadSpin

For the first time in two years, we might actually get to talk about home-court advantage in the NBA playoffs, but in a weird, 2021-ish kind of way.

More Americans are getting vaccinated, more fans are returning to the stands, and most stadiums are increasing their capacity limits for the first round. But each state has its own guidelines for reopening indoor facilities. So, do certain teams have a home court advantage?

You can bank on it. While no arena will be packed at full capacity, most series will have a fan imbalance. How does your team (sorry, Kings fans!) stack up?
So state laws were observed for COVID-19 situations and the NBA.

Boxing leagues have always been fishy. That's why there's more than one of them. States have regulatory bodies for them because they'd be even more of a free for all than they are without them.

Pretty sure one guy owns the biggest MMA league. Have no idea how many of them there are, or who regulates them.

Promoters in both boxing and MMA are not to be trusted. They run things.

I don’t think it’s a bad question.
Does collective bargaining have anything to do with it?
