Why do so many Protestants come across as so proud to not be Catholic? I find that when Catholics talk about Lent around a Protestant, the Protestants always seem to say something along the lines of “I’m so glad I’m _______ and don’t have to do that.”

I know there’s so true wisdom out there on this.

Being Catholic is like being an Alabama fan in Birmingham.
Being Protestant is like being a Troy fan in Birmingham.
Protestants have to find some happinesses around the periphery and in the margins.

Seems like th eopposite to me. To the point that a Catholic can't even go to a Protestant church, or it won't "count". Methodists offer Communion to everyone, not just the members.

I just like to jerk their chain and point out not everybody buys their schtick. S. La. Catholics are so insular and self satisfied. No knock on them for that, it's a natural product of being the majority. In areas where they're not the dominant culture, they have a lot more humility.
