In Covington from January 10-13 the "high" didn't get above freezing for 4 days. The "low" rose from 9 to 16 over that same timeframe. Is this the year the Lakes of LSU froze over? My uncle told me the pond on their property had ice so thick that he couldn't bust through with a maul hammer...and he is not a small human. That's damn cold!

It got down to 9 in the 80s in BR. Almost every house in our neighborhood had busted pipes.

The River froze as far South as the ArKansas/Louisiana line.

What year was it in the 80's when there were icebergs coming down the river through Baton Rouge? I was a small kid...maybe 1984, 85?
There was also a big freeze a few years ago on the northshore. Rained and sleeted for a couple of days, then got into the upper teens for three or four nights in a row. The ice never had a chance to melt, and missed three days of work. Interstate was closed. I would go out at night and enjoy the dead silence for a little while because there was no noise pollution from the cars on the highways.

It got down to 7 degrees in Covington. That's the coldest temp recorded here. Damn chilly.
