You get a free ticket in Louisiana every 5 years if you take a driver responsibility course and it doesn’t go on your record. It’s the law. Call the DA and ask to take a driving course so they will toss it.

Well he said he smelled alcohol on my breath, which I really doubt. He told me he would take me down to the sheriff's office for a breath test and would be happy to do it. I said I had a beer before I left the house and was going to pick up Mexican food.

I would be glad the worst I got out of this encounter was a speeding ticket and take the win.

So he could be shooting a dog running across the road? Is only a vehicle suspect to this radar? As far as time, I'm retired, and going to court for a few hours to rectify the act would be interesting.

The easiest and cheapest thing for you to do is to go to your court date, have a pre trial conference with the DA, and tell him or her your story. If they don’t dismiss it they will probably give you a non moving violation that won’t go on your record and assess a small fine.
If that doesn’t work, you can usually get a continuance on a first setting.

Don’t just pay the ticket because it will go on your record. Don’t make a big deal out of contesting something so minor because if you lose, or if you piss them off, a moving violation may go on your record.

You admitted to drinking and driving…doesn’t matter if the cop radar locked on a UFO…judge won’t listen to your protests if that comes out. Just show up, ask to talk to city attorney before your case is heard and they’ll get it knocked to non-moving violation, pay fine and go home.

Ticket was dismissed. My attorney talked to the city prosecutor, and he dismissed the ticket. Thanks to all your Barney Fife solutions. I fought the law, and I won. Bout time.
