That was me, didn’t want to talk to him about dying.
Made very uncomfortable until wife #3 convinced him she needed a will and he should cancel the 60 yr old family trust.
She was a grifter and had herself installed as usefruct of his estate.
His four kids were his heirs and would be required to pay her upkeep.

I'm kind of partial to the way my wife's side of the family does things. Whoever races to the house first after someone croaks gets the good stuff.

Also, for accounts that allow named beneficiaries like IRAs, 401ks, HSA, brokerage accounts etc. If there are named beneficiaries, a will will not supersede those in most states. Though I guess there could be exceptions.
So make sure the beneficiaries are correct especially regarding "per stirpes" if the account allows it.

My parents’ situation is bulletproof. Although it took them way too long to get it sorted. Basically they talked about it from the time my grandparents passed 20 years ago until a couple of years ago when they finally did it.
Haven’t done my own yet. I know, total rookie move.
Not sure about my in-laws. But they have a blended family situation, so I’m sure it’ll be a cluster. Not my circus, though.
